A ‘BUSINESS VISA’ to India is issued to foreign nationals for attending business meetings with companies in India, sales or exhibiting on behalf of a company outside of India.

US citizens have the choice to apply for a 1-year or 5-year multiple entry visa. It is recommended to apply for a 5 year business visa. Period of each stay in India is a maximum of 6 months in each trip irrespective of the duration of the visa.

Spouse or Children accompanying an individual on Business Visa to India MUST apply for a Tourist Visa separately.

1. Applicant’s Original Passport with


• Validity having at least another 6 months beyond stay in India
• Having blank visa pages (at least 2 for visa stamp)
• Please ensure that you have your original signature on your passport.
• The Consulate will not accept any damaged, soiled or defaced passports

2. Visa Application Form



Visit the Online Visa application form  at  https://indianvisaonline.gov.in/visa/info1.jsp with paying special attention to every guideline and details first. ONCE you complete filling the application form online, JUST PRINT the form. DO NOT make an appointment or payment at this stage.  Keep the printed & duly signed form by the passport holder with an attached photo placed on the mentioned area.

The traveler must sign their own visa application form, and signatures on the application must match the signature in the applicant’s passport.

The Indian visa application form must be printed on TWO pages(NOT back to back printing), and signed on both pages; one below the photo on top right on the first page; and the other at the bottom of the second page.

3. Passport Size Color Photograph of the applicant with dimensions having 2″ x 2″. Other photo requirements include;


• Photograph for Visa cannot be the same photograph that is already in your passport
• Recent Passport photo taken within the past 6 months, showing current appearance
• 2 inches by 2 inches’ size
• Photographs NOT to be stapled and must NOT be adhesive taped
• Must be in color.
• NO Scanned / Color printed photograph
• Must be against white background
• Must show full face, front view
• Must be taken in normal street attire.
• Photograph has to be an original and printed on GLOSSY PHOTO PAPER ONLY

4. Proof of Address : Proof of address MUST match with present address provided in the visa application.
   
   
   1. State Issued ID Card– Copy of your Driving License or your Residence Card, OR
   2. Copy of a recent Utility Bill– Electricity, GAS or Water. Should not be more than 3 months old, OR
   3. Valid Annual lease agreement signed by the landlord & the Tenant.



Additional address proof requirement for Non-Us Passport holders:

Non-US citizen need to provide copy of one of the following documents

• Permanent Resident card (Both Side).
• Employment authorization card or any other acceptable legal status in USA



Important Notes on Address Proof

• If proof of address is not in the applicant’s name then documents pertaining to establish proof of relationship (to the person in whose name address is) is required
  • For Eg- If proof of address is in spouse’s name; please submit copy of Marriage Certificate.
  • For Eg- If proof of address is in parents (or in your children’s) name; please submit Birth Certificate as a proof of relationship.

5. Additional Particular Form


• Duly FILLED and SIGNED
• It is mandatory to answer all questions in YES or NO.
• Forms not filled completely or filled with N/A shall be considered incorrect and application will not be processed

6. Business Invitation letters- From Company in India

A letter from the Inviting organization on company letterhead indicating the nature of applicant’s business, probable duration of stay, validity of visa applied for (1 year, 5 years or 10 years), places and organizations to be visited, as well as guarantee to meet maintenance expenses

7. Letter from Company in USA



A letter from the organization in the U.S. on company letterhead indicating the nature of the applicant’s business, probable duration of stay, validity of visa applied for (1 year, 5 years or 10 years), places and organizations to be visited, and a guarantee to meet maintenance expenses. The letter must convey clearly the nature, scope and area of operation the parent company is involved in.

8. Indian Origin Applicants– Please refer to the “Indian Origin Applicants” tab in the panel on the right. It’s very important that you have read and understand the renunciation (Surrender of Indian Citizenship) rules if you do not have your Renunciation Certificate already.

1. Can I get a Visa on arrival at an Indian airport?

Ans- NO, you need to obtain a visa to India before you board a flight to India.

2. What is the time taken to obtain India Visa?

Ans– It takes anywhere between 3-7 business days to get a Indian Visa. In some cases, Consulate/Embassy officials may take additional time from a case to case basis; which is purely their discretion. This does not include the time taken for mail.

3. Is there a faster(expedited) way to obtain a India Visa?

Ans– Yes, We do provide Rush service. Please do mention your urgency at the time of submission of your application to us.

4. Do I need to appear in person to submit my Visa application to Embassy/Consulate of India?

Ans– No, You do not need to submit your application in person. Traversal Visa will submit your application on your behalf. In certain rare cases however, Consular officers from the embassy/consulate may ask you to appear for an interview.

5. How many days I am allowed to stay in India in one trip?

Ans– You can stay in India for a maximum of 180 days in India in one trip.

6. What is the validity period of my Visa?

Ans– Your visa is valid from the date of Issue as mentioned on the Visa sticker; and not from the date of entry into India.

7. Do minor children(less than 18 years) need a Visa to go to India?

Ans– Every applicant, irrespective of age is required to obtain a Visa before    departure to India.

8. I am not a US passport Holder, can I still apply for a India Visa in the US?

Ans– You can only apply for a India Visa from US if you a legal resident of US; US passport Holder, Green Card holder, Long term resident visa like L1. You are not allowed to apply for a India Visa in US if you visiting US on a short term visit(B1/B2).

9. I also have a passport of another country, in addition to my US passport. Which passport I need to use to apply for my Indian Visa?

Ans– Citizens of United States who may still hold passports of countries like Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, Sudan, Iran and Nigeria are required to apply using their Origin country passports only.

10. I have also heard about the recent scheme of e-visa on arrival at Indian Airports. Is it advisable to apply for a regular visa or e-visa to India.

Ans– Govt of India under a bi-lateral agreement with US is giving long term, multiple entry 10 year visit visa’s to US citizens; whereas the e-Visa is only valid for 30 days.  We recommend you obtain a 10 year visa considering long term benefits.

11. Is there any problem in visiting Kashmir for sightseeing with my Indian Visa?

Ans– Kashmir is a part of a “Restricted Area” for foreign Visitors. You can to obtain a “Restricted Area Permit” in addition to your Indian Visa to visit Kashmir. Please mention this to us at the time of your visa application, and the “Restricted Area Permit” can be requested for an addition fee to the Embassy/Consulate of India in US.

12. I have heard from some of my friends that they got a visa for a lesser duration than what they had applied for?

Ans– In most of the cases, visas are issued for the duration for what you have applied for . However, in certain cases the consular officials at their discretion may issue a visa for a shorter duration. This is however a exception rather than a rule.

13. Is there a refund of visa fee if I decide to withdraw my application?

Ans– Visa Fee, if already paid to the Embassy/Consulate is not refundable. However, if you decide to withdraw your application before it is submitted to the Embassy/Consulate; you will get the refund of the full fees.  There is no refund if Embassy/Consulate has rejected your Visa application.

14. What are the acceptable modes of payment acceptable by Traversal Visa?

Ans– At this point, you can make payment directly into our bank account through wire transfer, or you can pay by cash or money order. Personal checks and Company checks are not acceptable.  You can make one single(consolidated) payment if you are applying for more than one individual.

15. Do I need a Travel Insurance while visiting India?

Ans– It is not mandatory to have Travel insurance while traveling to India. However, it is always advisable to obtain one to take care of any unforeseen medical expenses. Do mention your requirement at the time of your visa application. It doesn’t cost a fortune; but can definitely save a dent in your fortune.

16. I had migrated to US from India many years ago and now have a US passport. Is there any additional documents that I need to provide to get a Visa to India.
